“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” — 3 John 1:2
For many years, my prayers focused primarily on spiritual growth, family, and ministry. Health was not something I regularly brought before God. I assumed that as long as my spiritual life was flourishing, everything else would fall into place. However, God used a powerful experience to teach me that He cares deeply about every aspect of our lives—including our physical health.
A Testimony That Changed My Perspective
During one of our prayer gatherings, several sisters and I spent hours praying in the Holy Spirit and seeking God’s intervention in various areas of our lives. Among us were women dealing with health challenges, including fluctuating blood sugar levels.
After our time of prayer, we checked our blood sugar levels again. To our amazement, the levels remained stable and had not spiked as expected. What we witnessed that day was more than a physical improvement—it was a divine reminder that God is concerned about our physical well-being just as much as our spiritual health.
That experience opened my eyes to a truth I had overlooked: prayer is not only for spiritual needs. We can bring every concern before God, including our health challenges, trusting Him to intervene according to His perfect will.
When Faith Meets Health
Following that testimony, the Holy Spirit began speaking to me in a deeper way during my midnight prayer sessions. I sensed that some of the struggles I was experiencing were not merely physical. There seemed to be a spiritual battle connected to my health and even my marriage.
As I prayed, I felt led to take authority in the name of Jesus. I boldly declared:
“Whoever wants to use this situation to attack my marriage and my health, I declare in the name of Jesus that this situation must immediately change.”
As I surrendered everything to God, I experienced peace, strength, and a noticeable improvement in my situation. This breakthrough taught me an important lesson: our health journey often involves both physical and spiritual dimensions.
God Desires Wholeness
The Bible consistently reveals God’s desire for His children to experience wholeness in body, soul, and spirit.
3 John 1:2 reminds us:
“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”
This verse beautifully demonstrates that God’s concern extends beyond our spiritual lives. He desires our overall well-being.
When we face health challenges, we should not hesitate to seek God in prayer while also taking practical steps toward wellness. Faith and responsible stewardship work together.
Honouring God with Our Bodies
One of the most powerful truths God has taught me is that caring for our bodies is an act of worship.
Many people associate serving God only with ministry activities such as preaching, teaching, evangelizing, or serving in church. While these are important, Scripture also teaches that our bodies belong to God.
The Apostle Paul writes:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?… Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Our bodies are sacred vessels entrusted to us by God. Taking care of them is not vanity—it is stewardship.
When we eat nourishing foods, exercise regularly, get proper rest, and make healthy choices, we are honouring the One who created us.
The Connection Between Physical and Spiritual Health
Our physical health affects our ability to fulfill God’s purpose.
A healthy body enables us to:
- Serve more effectively
- Care for our families
- Pursue our calling with strength
- Maintain emotional resilience
- Enjoy greater quality of life
Just as we nourish our spirits through prayer and God’s Word, we should nourish our bodies through healthy habits.
God’s Word even speaks about His blessing upon our physical provision:
“Worship the Lord your God, and His blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you.” (Exodus 23:25)
This verse reminds us that God is involved in every area of our lives, including our daily health and nutrition.
Practical Ways to Walk in Faith and Health
Living a healthy lifestyle is not only about physical appearance; it is about becoming a faithful steward of what God has entrusted to us.
Here are some practical ways to strengthen both your faith and your health:
1. Pray About Your Health Daily
Invite God into your wellness journey. Ask for wisdom, healing, and guidance.
2. Speak God’s Promises Over Your Life
Meditate on healing scriptures and declare them over your body.
3. Eat with Gratitude and Wisdom
Choose foods that nourish your body and thank God for His provision.
4. Prioritize Rest
Rest is a gift from God and an important part of maintaining physical and emotional health.
5. Stay Active
Movement strengthens the body God has given you and supports overall wellness.
6. Listen to the Holy Spirit
Seek God’s direction regarding lifestyle changes and health decisions.
7. Build a Supportive Community
Surround yourself with people who encourage both your faith and your health goals.
8. Trust God Through the Process
Whether healing comes instantly or gradually, continue trusting God’s faithfulness.
A Prayer for Health and Wholeness
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of life and for the body You have entrusted to me. Help me to honor You with my health and to care for my body as the temple of Your Holy Spirit.
Give me wisdom to make healthy choices, strength to persevere through challenges, and faith to trust You in every season. I ask for Your healing touch upon every area of my life—body, soul, and spirit.
Bless my food and water, renew my strength, and guide me according to Your perfect will. May my life reflect Your goodness, and may my health enable me to fulfill the purpose You have called me to.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thoughts
Faith and health are not separate journeys. God desires for us to experience wholeness in every area of our lives. When we surrender our bodies, our health concerns, and our daily habits to Him, we position ourselves to receive His guidance, strength, peace, and restoration.
Let us commit to honouring God not only with our prayers and worship but also with the way we care for the bodies He has given us. As we do, we become stronger vessels for His glory and more effective servants in His kingdom.
